Now these are the larger parts of the "little beasties" - the cal. 975 balance wheels with 4 timing screws - thread diameter is incredible 0.35 mm.
The most helpfull lady showed us how easy it is to screw in these tiny little screws - she's doing 150 balances a day (note, anyone with four timing screws)!
Carl on his search for the monster screws, someone else seems slightly amused
Mitch Katz trying to decide wether with or without the help of the microscope...
This tool is a sort of gauge to measure how far the timing screws are screwed in - very important for basic poising of the balance wheel.
This unbelievable machine does an automatic dynamic poising of the balance wheels. The blance (now with riveted arbor and roller jewel) is placed with the pivots on two points. Than beeing turned by a slight blow of press air. The "support" of the two pivots is movable and equipped with high precision measuring sensors.
The detected displacement is showing the "heavy spot" of the balance wheel, which than is corrected by milling a small slot into the rim from the underside. Mitch Katz checking the tiny balance wheel...
