I don t know if you recall my initial sckeptical opinion on the QL.At first i wasn t disappointed but not quite convinced.....As you said a watch for Conosseurs, for Purists....it has an initial appeal because the Duo case and look are sooo appealing to the majority of watch nuts, but almost all said that the previous Chrono was to be preferred.
O bviously at first sight the Chrono is more convincing, first because it was the first Duo,the benchmark and people were still enjoying the novelty of the chrono, second because the chrono complication is very easy to understand.
The QL requires understanding, knowledge to fully appreciate it.It is a great Chronometer, accuracy is the key.
A common comment was about the constant running fudroyante hand.I agreed that it give nervousness to the dial, especially so much in contrast with the moonphase which is the quintessential element of calm and serenity. The Fudroyante gives nervousness to an otherwise calm dial.Again once you understand the watch,it makes sense to have it.Superfluous?maybeCoherent?definitely yes for a watch that is made for accuracy.
I was convinced after all, especially after understanding it.
The 2 offerings were very appealing but the Rg version was too close looking to my Chrono,so YES a watch to put on wish list but not straight away, maybe in the future when my collection would ve been more complete.
Then SIHH 2011 came and...........I think the fudroyante is NOW the forte of the new WG version as the new watch being more "sporty "looking with its black dial welcomes the lightning hand so well...it suits the watch sooo much.....plus the blue moon disc is ti die for over black dial.
Not only one watch two brains like the advert say but 2 brains 2watches all in 1!A serene poetic moophase to admire, and a chronometer to die for.....
Straight on top of my list now!No danger to be too close to my Chrono but a beautiful black brother.
