Gorgeous case and proportions--very glad JLC didn't make this an ultra thin (even if it was possible)
I like what I think would be the wrist presence here...a sane 39mm but some thickness, in keeping with the significance of the piece as a high complication (please, JLC, make a time-only piece with a case, lugs and crown like this!)
JLC should have made the pinion bearing the hands in rose gold...the white metal is obtrusive
The seconds subdial and seconds hand seems like a bit of an afterthought. I do like the rose gold outline around the seconds dial, but more detail here (and definitely a nicer seconds hand) would be in order.
The "Sonnerie" tab really intrudes on the harmony of the piece. Perhaps it's a necessity because of the connection between the gongs and the crystal, but just because it's a necessity doesn't mean I have to like its overall effect.
The movement is, frankly, a disappointment. A hand-wound movement would be best (a Duometre would be great, and a natural extension of the Duometre line--one barrel for time, one barrel for the repeating mechanism). As it stands, the movement seems plain, with a visibly standard, workmanlike JLC layout and finish. That may be OK for the typical JLC, but not for a high complication. The rotor is fine, but doesn't outweigh the modest, workmanlike movement. I'm sure the engineering is excellent, but I would want more craft and aesthetic *pop* at this price point (or what I presume the price point will be--i.e., fairly expensive).
Thank you for the write-up and pictures.
Cheers,
John
