The Geomatic is every bit as compelling . . .

. . . as the other great chronometers of the era, Nicolas. I find the manual winding dateless Geophysic to be especially interesting . . . do you, or does anyone else on this forum, happen to own one? Cordially, Art

An in Depth review on the Géomatic

 By: amanico : March 18th, 2009-00:38
When we speak about Chronometers, we can't avoid the Géomatic, a nice and very elegant watch released in 1961. JLC communicated a lot during the life of this model ( 1962 - 1970 ), which actually was not produced in an impressive quantity ( 2000 pieces in...

One question, on the automatic movement, there is a wheel on top of the barrel, at 9 o'clock in your picture, that seems to have semi-circular cutouts in it. Any idea what it does? A

On the Geophysic movement or on the Geomatic, Aaron?

I think this is a clutch disk, reffering to the technical draws.

Does it make sense to you, Aaron? Best, nicolas

Sorta

 By: aaronm : March 23rd, 2009-21:09
I assume it is part of the automatic mechanism, maybe related to disconnecting the manual-wind during automatic winding or something? A

Great review, Nicolas.

The Past is the better way to get all the interest of the present watches, to me. And to fully appreciate them. Thanks for your nice comments, my friend. Nicolas

Hi Nicolas, Congratulations for the fantastic work done . Your review is a must. I'm even more happier to write this with my Geomatic on my wrist. I notice that I have the same dial as yours, even if my watch is apparently slightly younger (case made in 1...

... especially for someone like me who is a relatively new admirer of Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Geomatic and Geophysic are beautiful watches that give me some historical perspective and appreciation of the current Master range. Great picture of the Gyophysic ...

Back to the 60's

 By: Starman : March 18th, 2009-14:32
Reminds me of the shape of my father's and grandfather's Eterna's. Those 60's shaped watches still look very familiar to me and I'm happy to still seeing them back in the today Master Control collection. My prediction is that this style will return to som...

Dial abnormity!

 By: HerrK : March 19th, 2009-02:19
Dear Nicolas, I do not know whether you have noticed it already, but your Geomatic seems to have a dial abnormity. On all watches by JLC I have seen (including Geomatics) the hint for using Tritium on the dial by placing a T next to SWISS MADE is done sym...

Cool, isn't it?

 By: amanico : March 19th, 2009-23:12
I saw that, Herrk. That what's make it so special. As a coincidence, I know the whole life of this watch, and its first owner. As for the ads, we thought exactly the same, and I couldn't help smiling when I saw some relations between watches and some acti...

another poof of the savoi faire of jlc back in the days

 By: georgeszaslavsky : September 16th, 2011-12:35
Another great vintage watch from jlc that I admire. Well balanced proportions of the dial and hands, great movement and great legibility make of this watch a perfect one.

Too often " killed " by the elder Sister Geophysic, too often underated.

 By: amanico : September 17th, 2011-00:19
When it should deserve a better consideration for its overall qualities or virtues. Even more elegant than a Geophsic, by the way. A watch to discover or redisocver, absolutely. Best, Nicolas.
