Back to the 50s and 60s

 By: Marv : August 26th, 2009-10:27
Each time I step back to look at the production of Jaeger-Lecoultre wristwatches, I am always impressed by the very large range of different and appealing products proposed by JLC. Not only in the recent catalogues - where the Duometre and the new MUT are...

Hello Marv, I enjoyed this very much!

Thanks for sharing the pics! Very nice collection you got there! -MW

These are wonderful pictures...

I have to say, while i love many of the watches in my collection for all sorts of reasons, if the wolves were at the door and i had to sell, the very last watch that would go would be my father's 1957 JLC. It is probably the least valuable in the collecti...

As you say, "a certain unmistakable class"

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-00:17
Hi Joe, I agree with you that watches that are transmitted from parents are invaluable... and moreover when it is a JLC like your father!

Ahh.. A sight for sore eyes!

Very nice Marv - thank you! Are they all yours? They are all absolutely stunning. I think I prefer the Geophysic and the Powermatic - but ask me again tomorrow and it may just be the E855 dauphine and ... and ... Thanks again for posting these beautiful p...

Interesting question you raised here

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-00:18
Could there be a favorite watch? I think you have the correct answer: depending the day, it can be the Geophysic, the Powermatic or any of the other ones. As there could be no rational choice, I have finally decided not to choose.

I like your reasoning ;-) (nt) [nt]

Superb photos and a wonderful history lesson. I just love seeing these watches from JLC's past. Thank you for putting all of this together. I have to send more time looking at this post for sure. respo

Quite a historical collection....

Superb watches each! It must be difficult to find one to favor for the wrist. tempusfugit

More than difficult!

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-00:20
You ar right... It is almost impossible to find one to favor for the wrist. But at the end, this is the king of problems I am very pleased to be confroncted!

Perfectly wonderful, all treasures!

I would like to add just one, this one crosses decades from 1948-1953, the British Ministry of Defense Mark11. Like the Geophysic, anti-magnetic and with a wonderful movement variation, Cal. 488SBr:...

Beautiful photos

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-00:33
Steve, I fully agree with you: your model issued in 1953 definitively deserves to join the group. And the Mark 11 is also one of my favourite vintage models produced by JLC. The reason why I have hesitated to include mine is that it is a RAF version issue...

very nice collection, congrats ! [nt]

I have the impression that the Futurematic and…

…the first one of the second series had significant impact over the RDM design.

Master RDM

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-10:54
I share your view Marcello. Normal size, with a thin bezel, dauphine hands, small registers, including the black cross at 6 o'clock, ... Within the recent models, the Master RDM can be seen as the closest successor of these vintage whatches.

Thanks for sharing Marv !!! [nt]

Beautiful and historic collection...

...my next JLC will hopefully be one from the 60's or 70's! Thank you. N

Curious to see your next one

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-10:56
I think that you cannot be wrong with a JLC from the 60's. But if you go to a model produced in the 70's, you may surprise us, as there were some real psychedelic models at the time!

nice!

great pictures and post! thanks for sharing!

Marvelous, Marv. Throw in a few more Reverso pieces and this thread can...

Reverso

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-10:58
Hi Ruckdee, The 60's are not really the golden age for reversos. The model even disappeared from the JLC catalog at that time. In my view, the two important decades for the reverso are the 30's and 90's. Reverso have been reserved for another post

I enjoyed the tour indeed...

these old JLC are just marvelous and wonderful... simple but so important on an historical point of view and so...let say... perfect.... I hope this brand will not be hitten by the speculation wave we have on Rolex.. Thanks for sharing, it was great and i...

About the memovox

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-10:59
The memovox was my second JLC vintage, but that is the one that really whetted my appetite for vintage models. Fabrice, good luck in your search !

Thanks for taking us on this voyage back in time Marv !

Time capsule

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-11:00
That is exactly why I appreciate so much vintage watches. In addition to interesting timepieces, it is a door to revisit the past with flavours, images and sounds. And by the way, mentioning sounds, did you notice the background? It is the vinyl of the gr...

Here is my JLC from 50' with my Reverso Grande Date....

Beautiful duo

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-11:01
This is very nice duo that you posted here. And complementary too : vintage / modern ; round / rectangular ; metal straight indexes / painted arabic numbers ; central second / little second, ... But in both cases, beauty and elegance

Superb collection, Marv!

Golden years

 By: Marv : August 28th, 2009-11:14
The 50s and 60s... For sure, it is two great decades for JLC. But when I look carefully at the JLC production in the late 30s (you know what I am thinking about ) or the recent catalogues (you also know what I am thinking about ), it is just impossible fo...
