More about JLC Watchmaking Week -- Singapore

Jul 17, 2008,19:49 PM

Previously, we brought attention to the JLC Watchmaking  Week events to celebrate their 175th Anniversary and the 80th Anniversary of the Atmos clock......click here

Well here is the 1st day of Singapore's Week starting 17th July....

01 - Jaeger-LeCoultre Managing Director Southeast Asia and Australia -- Xavier Dufoix -- opened the exhibition

02 - One key highlight -- Master Watchmaking Class -- different movement from that used in past Master Classes

03 - Class is taught and guided by the very humourous and patient Frank Martin -- who by the way, speaks good English despite modest protestations....

04 - The movement that will be (man)handled by amateur watchmaker wannabees -- JLC Calibre 751 automatic -- 1st JLC in-house automatic chronograph

05 - Column wheel with vertical clutch system

06 - JLC Calibre 751 (half-way through being tortured)

07 - First close encounter with a column wheel (Frank Martin provides solid commentary on how the chrono works!

For those who have a reserved place, don't you dare miss this watchmaking class!!

08 - Inside the Pleasure Dome.....far beyond Kublai Khan's imagination

09 - Class in-session (ssshhhhh -- how the chrono works)

10 - Decorating class next -- this is exactly what you will do -- sawing...

11 - ... and polishing -- proves that certain parts are really "HANDMADE".

The class is conducted by JLC Master Engraver Dominique Vuez

12 - Your Mission: Cut out the JLC logo (JL) from the brass plate......er......I mean: "Use the saw without cracking the plates"

13 - Make sure the sides are polished smooth

14 - Well, we tried... and now we appreciate our JLC watches even more! smile

15 - Knowledge is one thing -- practical skill is another... at least we didn't break brass plates like some people!

A guy (non-Purist) broke more than a few plates with his fret-saw........ above is just one broken plate  smile

For those who have the time, do participate in the JLC exhibition. Enjoy!

Regards,

MTF
