A question...

Nov 13, 2014,05:28 AM

who was the final buyer?

Did JLC pull a PP move and "pad" the auction?

PP started padding auctions back in '97, simultaneously presenting the "You never actually own..." ads. Over the next 10-to-15 years, PP needed to do this less and less, as they had gotten the ball rolling.

I'm not saying it's a bad strategy, if JLC did (though we many never know) pad it, and has decided to "get in on the game," it will definitely drive sales of JLC worldwide.

As they say, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

I'd be very interested to find out the answer to the first question.

Here is the Geophysic which reached the sky during the last auction.

Credit picture: Antiquorum. Which went for.... 52500 CHF, including buyers premium. Which makes a good 45 K Euros. It has already been said, but at this level of condition... The other interesting things are that " Crosshairs " dial and the original plexy...

Beautiful ...

Picture already on my machine. Thank you for introduced to me and several here, the wonders of the Geophysic. Cheers, Nilo

Wow! That means the end of my search for a vintage example!...

... This price will put this watch in a high niche definitively out of my reach! Glad I got the present version which, lacking the same charme of the vintage, is a lovely sexy and cool watch which I m loving more and more! Interesting info Nicolas! Un abr...

Wow. Those are the expensive seats......

 By: Darren : November 12th, 2014-13:23
Not all that surprising I suppose, as the prices on desirable vintage timepieces in wonderful condition have skyrocketed over the past few years. This is a beautiful example, and somebody obviously really wanted it. Darren

Yes, it has been some years now, that some Vintage JLCs got some serious

Appreciation.... There was the Polaris, the Deep Sea Alarm, some colored Reverso dials, and now, the Geophysic. I hope some other vintage JLCs will have their " glory time "! Best, Darren. Nicolas

You know the story, Abel. That doesn't mean that they will all do the same score.

 By: amanico : November 12th, 2014-13:26
If we get the same outcome in the let's say next 20 auctions, then it will be significative. This is a sign of appreciation, an appreciation of a Watch in excellent condition, that is all. Let's say that the days when the Geophysic was at 4 or 5 K Euros (...

Amazing frenzy !.. For me it makes things easier.. With the TT & this info, ...

.. I have given up all my ambitions for the Vintage !.. Sometimes a journey ends and you don't mind at all .. ;) - Makes life easier,, Best, hs

Don't give up so easily, my friend.

If all the Geophysic go for a price range between 30 and 45 K Euros, in tis case, well, maybe, but I suspect it is not the case, not still.... Best, Nicolas

Interesting development....

The Deluxe and one Cross Hairs? Or the two Cross Hairs ( SS and YG )? Damn, you are really greedy! ;) Best, Nicolas

Yes. [nt]

I had plans to be the FIRST...!

By: blomman Mr Blue : November 13th, 2014-03:07
Now that plan feels very far away.... Best Blomman

yes, one of each

 By: RDL : November 13th, 2014-08:47
I am fortunate to have one of each (steel, YG, RG)...but no cross-hair, so even that theme is still not complete

On the other side, you are close to the final countdown.

 By: amanico : November 13th, 2014-08:48
As you have two SS, you can trade one for a YG. So, it will be three different Geos.... Then you will miss the De Luxe, which is, well not very enthusiasming, and the Cross Hairs.... Which is problematic. Best, Nicolas

A question...

Good point Dean ...

... very good point. Which makes me think that "affordable" used JLC watches will mean used watches that are 10-20 years old max and that anything older will be at a very high price...

No, high prices are not the rule, for vintage JLCs.

 By: amanico : November 13th, 2014-08:53
Which Vintage JLC reached a high price? Polaris, Deep Sea Alarm, Reverso ( some colored dials ) and the Geophysic. And, once again, it has to be relativized, and compared to vintage PP and Rolexes.... The rest is quite affordable, but it may change a bit,...

I hope so !! [nt] [nt]

Glory Time... Best, my friend. Nicolas

If they are padding, they seem to be doing it unevenly

 By: Timjohn : November 19th, 2014-08:13
Hi, I'm new to the forum, and relatively new to JLCs. It seems if they are padding, they are doing it unevenly -- Bonhams in London sold a YG Geophysic two days after Antiquorum for £5,250 best regards Tim

Superb watch ...

... which makes me contemplate vintage watches with another look. However, the price is way beyond the limit ... Thanks Nico!

Wow! Sky high price indeed!

The market has spoken for this legendary watch! :) Now should I get the modern one since I cannot afford this vintage one?! Cheers Robin

Short answer: Yes. ;) But now, I wonder if this high price can be explained by the fact

 By: amanico : November 14th, 2014-06:23
That this one came with a Cross Hairs Dial, which is pretty are... Or just because it is a top condition one, or maybe a bit of both? Best, Nicolas.
