Hmmm...

Firstly, congratulations on your timepiece.  The AP GP is the pinnacle F1 themed watch from any brand.

Forged carbon is susceptible to a dent if hit hard enough.  If your piece came like that and you did not hit it,  your question might be with your dealer.  It would not have left the factory with a dent, that we can be sure of.  Over the years, sadly, I have witnessed sales reps at ADs smack watches when removing them out of cases.  Another consideration is the graining of forged carbon and your pictures - it is hard to tell exactly what we are seeing, and the random appearance of the material (which is very much of its allure) can play with what you see.

Hard to say without viewing it in person, but if the piece is for wearing (and not locking up) I would enjoy it fully, knowing you can always have that upper bezel piece replaced during a service down the road.

AP ROO GP Carbon Issue

 By: M68G : June 3rd, 2011-01:27
Hi Guys, I have just gotten my 3rd AP ROO, GP Carbon a few days ago. After taking a close look on the watch I found kind of a thin dent on the upper part of the bezel surface. Just wondering whether is this normal because made of forged carbon or not norm...

Hmmm...

Yes, I will enjoy and have fun with it Soomi. Thanks. I know it will be there if I use it everyday but I just don't feel good if the dent is already there when I bought it.

your pic would be a wonderful make masthead pic for this forum:)

Thank you Michael. That's why I want to check around first before asking the AP Boutique where I bought from, otherwise they will just give respond that it's natural because of its forged carbon material. That's what they keep telling me when I asked abou...

You are most welcome, and I am sorry for your difficulties.

I owned and enjoyed a forged carbon Alinghi for over a year, wearing it about 5 times a week for that period. I can honestly say it looked the same after all that wear as the day I received it. Still, forged carbon seems to be an evolving material for AP....

I will enjoy it Michael. Thanks for sharing. How do you like your Trulli ? Actually I am thinking to get one too. I have tried my brother's, but I have a thought that it looks smaller than my ROO Ginza when I wear it on my hand.

A friend and I also have the same problem...

 By: gasterus : June 3rd, 2011-08:18
Both of us notice quite similar dent located at the 12 o' clock position on our watches. I didn't really notice it when we bought the watch, just notice it after a few months of wearing it. Both of us did not recall knocking our watches. Is this a product...

I feel the same with my watch, i think it is more so a mark of a die cast of the FC or an injection point of the cast or mould. Iam sure AP factory will be a better authority to comment on this. Ovais

Do yours and your friend's have the same kind of dent?

 By: M68G : June 4th, 2011-01:14
That's why I do not know whether the is a defect from the factory or not? Because when I saw some GP carbon pics on the internet, they looks just fine. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, Is the mark already there from first time you got it?

I did not inspect the watch in detail when i got it from the

boutique. But, i worn the watch a few times before i noticed the scuff mark.

If it was there right from start, either your AD or the factory should be responsible..

From the few pics posted, definitely look like defects. If bought 'brand new' as such, I would definitely claim for it to be replaced--either new watch, or bezel at the very least. Do share with us here AP's comment/solution regarding this problem.

In the UK this watch is £26000, for that you should expect perfection even if the material is groundbreaking for watches. Having tried this watch on at the dealer I now love it - very cool!

That's what I expect from the AP Boutique

I am still waiting for the Boutique response.

similar issues

 By: ameriddd : June 7th, 2011-06:03
I had some similar issues. I never banged the GP on anything, but I noticed in the first couple weeks that sometimes I would rub along the edge of the forged carbon bezel and it would start to come off. I'm guessing it is simply part of the evolving forge...
