Thanks for the reminder

We should all be reminded of the PuristS founding principles from time to time. Thanks for this post, my friend. It is also the responsibility of those PuristS who have been around for longer periods to guide the newer members. [That might sound condescending, but it is not meant to be.]

I am against censorship and rarely delete or edit posts, leaving everyone's words to stand and be judged by the community. But we expect a high standard from PuristS members. You can all be assured that when someone steps beyond the boundaries there is private discussion with them regarding their behavior and posts. Of course we do have the ultimate option of removing an individuals posting rights or access, but that is rare. And we do expect tolerance and respect from all.

Thomas' concept of the virtual dinner party may not have been new, but PuristS is a great example of its consistent application and the benefits it brings. The recent example on the Patek Forum, which Ian has referenced above, demonstrates the negative effects of not giving people the benefit of the doubt. It is one thing to have reservations and suspicions about people's intentions, but these should be addressed by friendly and open questions, as you would face-to-face at a dinner party.

PuristS is a great place and a wonderful community, but we all have to work to keep it that way. And we all have to be supportive and a little understanding of one another.

Just my thoughts.

Andrew

This is a wonderful site; a wonderful community (for the greatest part), and a very comforting cyber-home-away-from-home. What makes it so? There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of watch-related websites to which we could subscribe, and perhaps many of us ...

Pplater, Your post summarized almost everything that I tried to explain on the past (and I failed) and you explained everything much better than I could. Again, thank you very much. Cheers, Nilo

That someone could - time after time - barge into a discussion group with a lip-service apology for previous offenses and then continue to exhibit the same grandiose behavior as before reminds me of those debt-ridden, hedge-funded banks that were deemed "...

I lurk a bit but don't post much. However, I have had the immense privilege of meeting a number of Purists, and I count myself most fortunate enough to have become friends with some of them. For this, I am very much thankful, and I would like to take this...
