I am in a grey mood.

May 16, 2013,00:53 AM

4 modern JLCs, 4 different styles, 4 different shades of Grey...

1/ Ruthenium Guilloché:

2/ Ruthenium Smooth:

3/ Ruthenium " Sector dial ":

4/ Ruthenium " Open dial ":

I didn't pay attention to that detail before, but it seems that I have a big love affair with Ruthenium dials.

Which is easy to understand. Most of the dials are black or white.

Ruthenium is a special grey, with some superb chromatic changes depending on the light.

And, last but not least, the 4 watches mentionned above are very important to me.

The Septantieme is an instant love story, which lasts!

The Amvox I Titanium is a very nice modern interpretration of Polaris.

The Amvox II is one of my favourite modern sports chrono, as well as a very interesting concept watch, original, young, powerful.

And well, the MMR Ti... Very conceptual , young, too, a superb blend of tradition ( the complication ) and modernity, the technics and the style.

A short summary of Jerome Lambert's reign, these last 12 years.

An homage to him, before he leaves the Manufacture.

Best,

Nicolas

I keep it simple, somehow: 1/ don't have one of them, but adore them all, especially 2 of the four 2/ my favourite is the Septantieme - grey but sooo beautiful, in all aspects a feast for the senses, IMHO It comes near to the perfect Reverso for humble, "...

What? You prefer the Septantieme to the MMR???

 By: amanico : May 16th, 2013-13:31
Wow, my friend! What a surprising choice! But you know that I love surprises and different opinions. Thanks for your input, my dear friend. All the best from Dr Mamadu. ;)

I would maybe rather say.. A very close call.. Or a honorable tie :)

I mean, the Ti MMR is somewhat in a class of its own ! - but otherwise, Yes - I love the sight and feel of the 70ieme; Maybe that's like with Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca, Or Messi and Ronaldo -- choices can be difficult, but differences mean having ch...

I love these themes...

JLC... ...ruthenium dials... ...and a tribute to Jerome Lambert who oversaw teh creation of all of these marvelous watches. Best regards, respo

These 4 fed my dreams, and now are a core part of my collection.

Hard to beat, I think, and a great example of Jerome's vision and of JLC diversity. Another example which illustrates that Diversity is not always a bad thing! Best, Respo. Nicolas

Very nice and well deserved homage ...

The Septantieme is to die for. Mr. Jerome Lambert did great things for JLC. I'm expecting what he will do on his next kingdom. Cheers, Nilo

Funny to see all the love for the Septantieme, here, while we don't often discuss it.

 By: amanico : May 16th, 2013-13:35
When I took the helm of the JLC moderation, there were almost no posts about this watch. Interesting consensus on this watch. Thanks for your input, Nilo! Best, Nicolas

It's a sad fact that we forget a watch from time to time ...

 By: nilomis : May 16th, 2013-14:00
But the Septantieme deserves much of our attention. Lets see what you can do about. Show us the magic. Cheers, Nilo

Well deserved hommage, but...

Dear Nicolas, I don't know if your post was truly focused on grey dials, since I've perceived a certain nostalgia... Anyhow, I have to say that me too I love dark-grey-dialed-watches: I often find them intriguing. Moreover, the use of dark grey shades are...

There is always a lot of nostalgia to see a friend leaving.

But there is also a big satisfaction to see such a brand offering such a diversity of watches. To answer on your observation of the catalog, I agree with you that all the watches featuring in them are not and cannot be of everybody's taste. Some will pref...

Pure and Powerful a great combination

That selection you have shown us has a lot of depth and balance. Jerome was a good steward for the brand and we wish him the best in the future. Best Bill

I love all of them...

.....but especially the Reverso!

It is a very lovely watch...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : May 17th, 2013-10:08
.....the grey sets it apart, but I love that night & day feature. A feature one never needs, but is just great to look at on a watch. Its a bit like a moonphase....i never really need to know the moonphase, but its great to look at on a watch.

You know how I adore that Septantieme

 By: MichaelC : May 17th, 2013-08:56
My favorite Reverso. And you also know grey is my favorite color for watches (with a little lust for blue, too). 4 beauties. We're going to miss JL...

I am rediscovering some beauties from a not so distant past, Michael.

 By: amanico : May 17th, 2013-10:06
Stay tuned, I ... I will soon post a nice watch, totally under appreciated... Best, my friend, and thanks for your kind words. Nicolas.

The 1/ Ruthenium Guilloché is cool! -MW

Interesting bond between otherwise very different watches

 By: nikolaj : May 17th, 2013-23:26
A very cool foursome you display there Nico! Makes me think that these four beauties actually constitute a perfect "mini" collection in themselves. Great diversity in form and function but with superb coherence in aesthetics and heritage. My personal favo...

Yes, this is a small collecton in itself. Agreed.

As for the dial of the amvox I, compared to the 3 others, this is the one which changes the most, depending of the light. Will have to show it to you in the real... Soon? Best, and thanks for your input, my friend. Nicolas

Done deal. ;) [nt]

That will be hard to beat, indeed.

In terms of diversity. Now, JLC can go deeper in the true values of watches, mainly in terms of finish, on some of them. We'll see... Best, my friend. Nicolas

With a lineup like this...
