A surprise from the JLC 2011 SIHH: The Tribute To Reverso 1931 US VERSION!

Mar 16, 2011,01:01 AM

It is now time to reveal this special version of the Tribute To Reverso 1931.

I was lucky enough to have a first and quick preview on the prototype of this watch in Geneva:

This was not the definitive watch I will introduce you later in this post, but it is always interesting to see the prototype, so this picture is for your eyes only.

Compared to the " normal " Tribute To Reverso 1931, the luminous indexes are darker.

The " Normal " TT 1931:

The changes are, on the definitive watch, much more important that it seems, at a first glance.

In the reality, it is closer to the pictures of the original Reverso you can see in the book " Jaeger-LeCoultre, La Grande Maison " :

The most visible changes are:

- The shape of the hands, which are now skeleton pointed, and baton shaped.

A historically controversial, but aesthetically pleasant point.

- The color of the indexes, as already said, which have a nice Vintage looking tan color.

- The Logo " Reverso " which is closer to its original " sister ".

- The strap, which comes from a famous Polo boot maker, Eduardo Fagliano, is made of cordovan, a very supple leather to wear, and to feel... One more astucious link with Polo.

Ok, enough words, let see the official pictures of the definitive watch, now.

The Tribute to Reverso 1931 US:

One thing will not change, the elegant dimensions of this great Tribute, and, of course, the nice pleasant matt dial.

If you want to know more about the TT 1931, here is a link to my review:

jlc.watchprosite.com Please, take note that this US version is NOT a Limited Edition, will NOT be numbered, and that, for this year, it will be produced in 100 pieces.

Nothing is certain, for the moment, for the next year.

This watch will available at the Beverly Hills JLC Boutique, as well at the most important U.S JLC ADs, according to my informations.

Hoping that you appreciated the " Making Off " on this special Reverso, and looking forward your thoughts and comments,

Best.

Nicolas. This message has been edited by amanico on 2011-03-16 01:15:15 This message has been edited by amanico on 2011-03-16 06:21:46 This message has been edited by amanico on 2011-03-20 00:02:39

Love this new strap ;-)) Thanks for this information Best, Patrickh

Thanks for reading.

Me like!

 By: nikolaj : March 16th, 2011-01:16
What a surprise! Honestly, my immediate thought was. "Why?" - it seems difficult to justify a version so close to the other TT1931 from a marketing point of view. You may argue that it is in line with the recent presentation of the Deep Sea US/EU versions...

Interesting input, Nikolaj.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-06:20
I will risk a theory, here: Those who like the " normal " TT 1931 may not like this US version, and vice versa. Why? Because there will always be people who will prefer the non faux patina for the indexes and hands, for example, or those who will prefer t...

Great suprise

 By: grigo : March 16th, 2011-01:37
A very nice watch, not a LE but then who knows in the end. Best regards, George

The fact that it is not a LE is a big pro, for me.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-06:49
I love a lot the " limited production " concept. Why? Because rarity does not have anything to see with the appeal of the watch. You love it for what it is, not because it is rare. It may be rare, it may not be, what matters is what you think on it, that ...

I fully agree with you.

 By: grigo : March 16th, 2011-07:04
What I meant is that notwithstanding the fact that it is not an LE, as there is no guarantee that it will be manufactired again next year it could de facto become an LE. A new trend maybe? Best regards, George

Now the question is...

 By: TdotBean : March 16th, 2011-02:49
How can I get one? Not limited edition but limited production without future commitment... Is there any other watch that is harder to get? Best Tyler

Not too hard, Tyler.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-07:22
It was officially released today, so if you send an email to the BH Boutique, you will certainly get one. Best, Nicolas.

Can you pm me the details?

 By: TdotBean : March 16th, 2011-07:43

Google JLC BH Boutique.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-08:01
Then, send them an email ( to Seth ), and tell him that you come from PPRO. I doubt you'll have issues to get one. Best, Nicolas.

Difficult choice .. Nice problem to have :)

 By: hs111 : March 16th, 2011-03:14
OMG - another choice ! JLC - and you continue to feed desires in a rapid pace .. Hmm - how does one easily get to LA - 100 pieces (Boutique edition, not LE, but handled as one - interesting) Specifically I am allured by the color of the indices and the wr...

If all the dilemmas could be as nice... :)

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-07:24
Thanks for your nice words, and comments, hs. Sleep well! Best, Nicolas.

Not a hard decision for me...

 By: RJW : March 16th, 2011-03:21
as I've already ordered the 1931 "standard" tribute and I don't live in the USA. Personally I prefer the indices colour of the US version but I prefer the hands of the standard version. The font of the US version does not appeal to me. Having said that, i...

Hey, Richard.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-08:44
I will make the same choice than yours. Not that I'm disturbed by the Reverso font on the dial, but, to me, even if they are nice, I prefer the hands on the " normal " TT 1931. Don't get me wrong, The US version is a very nice and appealing watch, but I l...

I was expecting a bigger surprise...

 By: foowy : March 16th, 2011-03:26
Its nice but I still prefer the original tribute hands. While this is a nice variation, I hope JLC doesn't fall into the LE marketing tactics so many other brands have been doing with slight color/metal variations. But honestly I was hoping for a much big...

It is not a LE.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-08:51
It is limlited in production, which is absolutely not the same. 100 pieces this year, maybe more next year, maybe not. Those who will love it will get it, those who have doubts about it will pass on it, that's a fair game. The current TT 1931 is not limit...

Thanks, Nicolas

 By: respo : March 16th, 2011-04:47
First thought: I wonder if I can order one through my AD. I guess I am in trouble now. Very interesting news! I must admit I am a bit befuddled by the approach of the limited production without commitment beyond this year and without numbering. I can't qu...

What do I think...

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-15:36
1/ About the LP approach, I think, honestly, that it is an excellent thing. As I wrote before, only the honest lovers of this watch will get it, not the flippers or those who are more interested about the LE phenomenon. You don't know how many were made. ...

So I was right :-)

 By: mr : March 16th, 2011-06:43
Personally, I like this one more than the normal TT1931, the strap is one of my favourite points of this watch, I also like the lume and overall look, it feels more like a vintage piece. What do you think of the watch Nicholas? regards Marwan

See my answer above. I just responded to Respo.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-15:43
I would have loved a mix of the two, to make it short: Same dial and hands than on the normal TT 1931, and same reverso writing than on the US, with the same Cordovan strap... Best, Marwan. And thanks for your input. Nicolas.

Thats the point I love about JLC

 By: mr : March 16th, 2011-16:51
You wont normally find flippers buying a JLC, its for people that are passionate about watches. JLC's choice to not number them was an excellent choice I spoke to the Beverley Hills boutique last night, they told me that one of the reasons the watch was m...

Well, Marwan, each Boutique has its surprises.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-23:23
BH, Paris, Madrid, and of course each of them may, one day, have its owqn Edition. To be clear, I speak in generak terms, I don'tr mention the Reverso, here. Can't agree more on what you say about flippers and JLC. Best, Nicolas.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, my friend.

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-15:46
I differ on the wording, though. I like it as it is even closer to the original. But I'm with you on the rest of your opinion. Anyway, two great watches which will easily find their respective fans. Best, Nicolas.

Thanks for giving us your point of view, Sam!

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-15:47
The patina vof this US version will perfectly match with your Cali! Best, Nicolas.

That is exactly what I thought! :) [nt]

This US Tribute to 1931 and the previously announced version are both lovely! Hard to decide which I like better. Hmmmm... Thanks, Nicolas, for this great news! Cheers, Daos

Yes, hard to decide, but if you had to pick one, only?

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-23:44
Come on, sister, you can do it! Best, Nicolas.

If I must...

 By: dxboon : March 17th, 2011-07:35
...only choose one, it would likely be the regular production model TT1931. Cheers, Daos

That's it!

 By: sw-rick : March 16th, 2011-08:01
In my opinion, and I'm an opinionated guy, this watch has much more warmth that the first tribute. And the "quirky" hands adds even more character. But now I'm torn ... Both are excellent tributes, the first one being a more "evolved" tribute ... more ste...

Interesting point, Rick.

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-00:18
Before I could see the TT 1931 in the flesh, I suspected the dial was a bit too cold, due to its white indexes. But, in the real, I could notice that the indexes were more creamy than white, and it was a definitve GO for this watch, for me. Now, this new ...

Ooh a surprise..!! You should have said..:o)

 By: Andy : March 16th, 2011-09:26
I actually prefere this one to the 'other' one...love the hands and the strap..!! Is it the same price..? Very nice and great report as usual Nico.. Andy.

I'm waiting for an answer, Andy.

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-00:26
About the retail of this US version. I will let you know asap. Best, Nicolas.

Retail price is $7250 for this beautiful piece...what a bargain..!!

 By: Andy : March 17th, 2011-09:44
Cheers Nico - I'm always worried about putting prices up just in case it causes problems but as you say this is the retail price so no arguments. Thanks for a wonderful write up - I also prefere this version and for some reason love the font used for the ...

Yes, good price, in my opinion.

Then, we'll see. Best, Nicolas

What a pleasant surprise, Nicolas!

By: blomman Mr Blue : March 16th, 2011-11:52
Love it! When will JLC give us a rest..?! Another dilemma – Jaeger LeCoultre or LeCoultre… Both hand configurations look great! What a sweet problem to have! Thank you for this nice surprise, my friend! Best Blomman

I don't see myself getting both the US and the normal version.

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-00:32
At the contrary of the TT DSA, whose dials and character are very different. BUT I would really see myself getting the SS and the RG TT 1931... For once. Best, Blomman. Nicolas. This message has been edited by amanico on 2011-03-17 00:45:53

Well said - exactly that, BUT ..

 By: hs111 : March 17th, 2011-02:54
- I confess, ( if wallet & desire pose the choice) for my part I would definitely FIRST go for the (second/ "other) DSA TT 1959, in my case then the Euro version. Still rattling , those choices.. - glad that I placed the order on ONE DSA (US) - makes myse...

Same priority, here. Surprising, isn't it? :)

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-03:03
The TT DSA will be hard to get, once sold out, which will happen quite fast. So, my absolute priority, this year, is the TT DSAs, both of them, of course. Best, Nicolas.

Vive la difference - only one "s"..

 By: hs111 : March 17th, 2011-04:30
Yes, indeed - Can imagine of course: simply 1 letter (!) makes the difference , (DSA vs DSAs), so distinctly attractive, "les deux", I do know. - You kindly have again confirmed my thoughts ( from the beginning on, BTW) .. "Every journey - no matter how l...

Well, after getting the two DSA…

By: blomman Mr Blue : March 17th, 2011-14:13
I would be very lucky if I get one TT 1931… Two is an impossible dream! Best Blomman

Is that it!?

 By: robsallnow : March 16th, 2011-12:06
I guess in a way it's nice that they offer such an option for people that want the nearest possible to the original design....but that doesn't mean to say it will be the most attractive looking version. If they abandoned that hand design after a year and ...

It is a matter of taste, Rob ...

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-00:48
Some will prefer the " ponited batons ", others will go on the spade shaped hands, it is a classic. Nobody loves the same watch. Best, and thanks for your answer. Nicolas.

Ooooops, 12 hours late ....

 By: bimbeano : March 16th, 2011-13:11
..... Great to see JLC made this Reverso so close to the original. And Graham wll like the ShellCordovan strap, it's perfect for this watch. Thanks alot Vlad for this info. Filip

Late as always, Filip... :)

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-00:49
As for the Cordovan strap, something tells me that it will be a great success. The beginning of a successful partnership? Best, Nicolas.

aaaahh now you created a problem :-)

 By: ChristianDK : March 16th, 2011-14:34
I think the US is perhaps better but Im waiting to see it in the metal. thank you for the post, I did not expect this to happen best Christian

First have a look on the normal TT 1931.

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-00:53
Then, if you're pleased with it, will be easier to intellectualize the US version. When you come to Paris, maybe? Best, Christian. Nicolas.

Why was the US chosen as market for this special edition of the Reverso Tribute?

 By: Bodo : March 16th, 2011-18:30
I wonder why JLC chose to restrict this model to a certain region, and why they picked the US. Does anyone know? The reason for a US version of the Deep Sea was clear, but in the case of the Reverso I don't see a particular reason... By the way, I am not ...

Good question, Bodo.

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-01:16
My guess is that it was made to put the light on the BH Boutique, but also to " make a gift " to the US Market. The good thing with this offer is that now, you have the choice between 2 appealing versions. Sometimes, more is better than less. May we know ...

Hello Nicolas, thanks for sharing your view on my question. So far, my JLCs are more on the dressy side, I have a Reverso Duoface, a Master Ultra Thin and a Master Geographic (the old 38mm version, with black dial). But I like a lot of models from differe...

I really like JLCs black dials. The Master Chronograph with black dial is stunning (I don't mind the date, but would have preferred white font on black background for the black dial), and a regular Master Memovox with black dial would be great, too (the d...

Thanks, Bodo, for showing this Black Geo! I really have to hunt one. I find it very tempting as it is, and wouldn't change a lot of things on this watch. Lucky you! Black Memo? I'm in! Best, Nicolas.

Thank you Nicolas ...

You know what? You can't go wrong with any of them, Jed.

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2011-23:18
