Ok, guys, I surrender, and won't hide this novelty anymore.
Here is a very interesting watch, from JLC: The Master Ultra Thin Moon.
Why is it so interesting?
Mainly because of its undisputable elegance.
Here you have a thin ( rather than an ultra thin ) watch, with a superb case, and a classic, not to say timeless, dial.
To say it better, you have a coherent watch, with no weak points.
1/ The dial:
All the key codes of a timeless piece are here:
Sunburst finish, long thin triangular indexes, rodhium plated for the SS version, or gilt for the Rose Gold version, long and slim dauphine hands, matching with the hour markers, and the traditional heated blue second hand.
A circular date, all around the moonphase, much nicer, in my opinion, than the traditional date window at 3 or 4, which would have ruined such a pure dial.
Simple, sober, understated and elegant. Nothing more to add.
2/ The case:
If you're in love with the dial, you will fall for the case.
Let's say it straight, this is not what I'd call an ultra thin, but a thin and GORGEOUS case.
The case is 39 mm big, and 9, 9 mm high, which is not a bad outcome for an automatic movement with a moonphase and a date.
But, and you got it, most importantly is the fact that this case is to die for: Slim, very nice proportions, and sublime lugs, some details shared with the Master Ultra Thin 38 and even more with the Grande Master Ultra Thin ( this last one having a 40 mm case ).
For those who are found of a warmer contrast and a more " retro look ", the Rose Gold version is THE choice.
Otherwise, the very elegant stainless steel is the one to go for.
3/ Movement and case back:
The movement ( Cal 925 ) is a new 246 parts, 30 jewels, automatic calibre, beating at 28 800 vibrations per hour, and offering an autonomy of 43 hours, which is relatively thin ( 4, 90 mm ) for an automatic movement.
Its aesthetic is very familiar to all JLC fan, as you can see on the picture below, and can be seen through the sapphire case back:
As to conclude ith this watch, I'd say that I appreciate it so much that I would love to see a manual movement inside, to gain even more in thinness.
But, as it is, no doubt that it will be a hit.
In fact, it is already a hit!
A last detail I love a lot, but it is more about the whole JLC collection of this year, is that our beloved brand seels to favorize smaller size for elegant watches, and to reserve bigger sizes for other watches.
This MUT Moon 39 is a perfect example: They could adopt the case of the Grande MUT, but they decided to make it smaller ( 1 mm ).
Brilliant.
It seems that JLC is starting to re think the case of their watches, too.
Promising!
