Will try to get some informations in English... Best! Nicolas

My heart felt congratulations to all at Jaeger-LeCoultre for their win.

 By: 219 : December 4th, 2009-06:25
A wonderful achievement; well earned and well won. What is impressive is that a number of firms actually took part. I have to applaud all who took part in the competition for their willingness in having their watches timed and measured against each other....

The 170 was in my mind, too, Andrew ....

 By: amanico : December 4th, 2009-09:18
I was able to see it at the Manufacture during my last trip, and yes, you're right, this movement won a prize at a Chronometry Contest; too. Which is important to say, ad you did it, is that I was surprised to not see some reputable manufactures attending...

Interesting insight

 By: Maverik : December 4th, 2009-11:50
Hi Andrew, Interesting insights on both on the 'old' movement and the (perhaps) 'over-engineered' new movement. But than does it matter? Both look and perform awesome! In any way a big hands together for JLC! Great that they took up the challenge, compete...

Wonderful news....

By: Velociphile - No longer in the building : December 4th, 2009-09:23
.... and congratulations to everyone brave enough to even enter this. A 'return to the Observatory Trials' is long overdue. It will be fascinating to see the results as the range of entrants is eclectic. Velociphile

Tim - how are you? Good to see you here after so long..

 By: 219 : December 5th, 2009-13:06
where have you been hiding? Hope all is well with you. Next time you are in the smoke, send me a PM. Andrew H

Hi Andrew. Sure ;-) (nt)

Who was #3?

 By: aaronm : December 4th, 2009-12:21
I see 3 possible movements, 2 from Zenith, one from AP A

yes, but isn't he in a different category? [nt]

The 3rd one...

 By: staiku : December 4th, 2009-12:43
...is a watch from René Addor, Calibre Papillon, Mouvement 11 jours, Ø 37.20 mm, Hauteur 4.50 mm, 28800 Alt/h

Other category

 By: aaronm : December 4th, 2009-13:12
I believe he was the winner of the "independents" category, so not competing with JLC et al. A

You were wright!!!

 By: staiku : December 4th, 2009-13:30
"Caliber Papillon, an eleven-day movement 37.2 mm in diameter beating at 28,800 vph was the independent winner with 795 points. René Addor, who spent most of his life working at Rolex, devised this mechanism and produced it in his garage in the Vall&...

Big congrats to JLC

 By: amanico : December 4th, 2009-13:47
I saw some of the JLC Team this afternoon, and they were very happy. And proud, too. Now, it is time to launch a(nother) Chronometric piece! ))

Now that I'm on the JLC train

 By: moc : December 4th, 2009-13:51
With my first piece coming .....I feel like I'm getting sick with the JLC bug!!!!It s a dangerous one Nico!!!more than swine flu I think.....::::: )))))Mo

And this is just the beginning, my friend

 By: amanico : December 4th, 2009-13:55
I'm pretty sure that 2010 will lead you to consider another piece... Grooooouuuink! Best, Nicolas

Oh dear you know something I don t know don t you????

 By: moc : December 4th, 2009-13:57

 By: moc : December 4th, 2009-14:01
trying to figure it out.......Can t wait now!..........

I tried to find the timing for the winning entries

 By: SteveG : December 4th, 2009-13:28
but either it is not posted or I could not decipher it. I just wonder how well these watches did, especially in a historical context.

Hey, thanks! Any information (or even direction)

 By: SteveG : December 4th, 2009-15:25
is greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's a convincing result

 By: stromer : December 4th, 2009-14:52
Entering into the contest with two watches and winning first and second prize, what could one want more? My Congratulations to JLC! However it would be interesting to know why there were so few participants. A lot of big names is missing on the list. Best...

There is always a risk, Martin

 By: amanico : December 4th, 2009-22:38
What would have people thought if ETA had won the Contest??? Would a big name stand it? JLC and some other big names played the game, took the risk, and have to be congratulated for that, IMO. Best, Nicolas

big congrats to JLC....

 By: FanFrancisco : December 4th, 2009-21:57
thanks Nico for sharing us this wonderful news. sharing with you too, i got my 4th JCL, you guess which model? it is RGMT. i am playing the watch, it is outstanding watch with all the practical complications in one watch with dual faces. well done, JLC. s...

One great news is often followed by another, Stefan.

That's good to see that

 By: amanico : December 4th, 2009-23:30
There is not only Marketting in this world! Best, Nicolas

This is a supprise for me

 By: dedestexhes : December 5th, 2009-00:54
Not at all that JLC did win, but that it was done with tourbillons (after all comments for the last years that it is just an esthetic thing for a wristwatch . It would be ideed nice to see the results in a historical context. Congratulations to JLC again,...

I have 2 topics about JLC and Chronometery in the pipe...

 By: amanico : December 5th, 2009-01:01
Will try to post one this month... As for the Winning tourbillons, it doesn't surprise me that much, as I spoke with the watchmakers at JLC and they didn tell me that thet were very confident with these 2 calibers. They were right... Best, Dirk. Nicolas

nice news

 By: foullis : December 5th, 2009-02:05
Nicolas, this is the "race" wich told for us time2tic on May ?

tourbillon

 By: foullis : December 5th, 2009-08:58
This contest make a NO anwer, for tourbillon is just a complication without any racional or mechanical value, and just for make a lot of number for the pricetag Congrats for the Manufacture !

I'm afraid I will have to be the party crasher here

 By: bill2016 : December 5th, 2009-23:33
and say that JLC's victory is at best a hollow one. As a competition that calls itself 'International' yet deliberately leaves out other watchmaking countries such as Germany and Japan (or even America and China) has no credibility IMO. Sorry, I find this...

They were free to attend, but they didn't.

 By: amanico : December 5th, 2009-23:41
Why the German or asian brands didn't want to attend, I don't know... But their absence don't " waste " the merit of the brands which decided to attend. There was a big risk to see a brand like ETA winning against more sophisticated and more expensive mov...

Hi Nicolas,

 By: bill2016 : December 6th, 2009-01:06
Sorry, but that is incorrect. Check the rules for the Chronometrie 2009 competition (it is on their website) and you will see the list of countries eligible to attend. Notable countries excluded are Germany, Japan, US and China. This I've copied and paste...

I stand partially corrected, Bill.

 By: amanico : December 6th, 2009-01:15
Germany was able to play..;" Allemagne " in French, and they are on the list you quoted. So they were free to attend. Actually, those who attended are far from being " faire valoir "... So, even if I would have preferred to see all the watchmakers attendi...

Well, there's a metaphorical egg on my face :-)

 By: bill2016 : December 6th, 2009-03:13
I always knew that skipping French at school would eventually catch up to me. Still, I find it disturbing that as an 'international' competition, it actually lists certain countries rather than having it open to all. I still am disappointed the fact that ...

And if they were invited, would they have attended?

 By: amanico : December 6th, 2009-03:17
The Germans didn't do, neither big Swiss Names... That's a fact. As for your French, I can assure you that my English is not that good... so, no problem! Best, Nicolas

Congratulations....

 By: MiniCooper : December 6th, 2009-04:59
to JLC...... Who were the big ones that chose not to participate? Cheers

Omega, Rolex are the names which immediately come to mind, PP

 By: amanico : December 6th, 2009-06:54
Which is weird, because they are very important companies, which have a Tradition in Chronometry... But also Breguet, Blancpain, Lange, and so on... Best, Nicolas

That is.....

 By: MiniCooper : December 6th, 2009-07:41
a great pity..... Cheers

Good to know! [nt]

Hi Nicolas, Excellent news. I shall send my deepest congratulations to the teams who participated and particularly to the JLC team for winning! I loved this race! And you know that I love the Master Tourbillon! www.tp178.com m Cheers Dje

They will certainly be very happy to hear from you, Jerome.

 By: amanico : December 6th, 2009-06:56
As they know you're a big fan of Chronometric pieces! Another excellent reason to love the Master Tourbillon, indeed. Best, Nicolas

toooop news!!!

 By: kkhazen : December 6th, 2009-11:41
... We were jst talking with some friends that ran into a MR platine. They are not fans of JLC, but we were saying how impressive the watch is ( there was also a extreme Lab, but i think they are saying this to piss me oof .. ) Btw, which tourbillon is it...

Master Tourbillon in platinum,Karim.

 By: amanico : December 6th, 2009-11:47
The great thing here is that we often complain about Marketting, here, and there. But when a brand ( and in this case, not only JLC ) dares to compete with others, there is no marketting, only risks. Risks to be beaten by others. JLC won, and demonstrated...

who is 3rd and 4th?? [nt]

I think that only the winners are mentionned

 By: amanico : December 6th, 2009-22:12
And that the other brands are free to communicate, or not. Will try to know... Best, Nicolas

The first watch would be virtually irresistible if

 By: Mostel : December 6th, 2009-17:26
it did not have the (dreaded) outside date... No matter! Congrats to JLC and keep 'em coming. I was daydreaming the other day about what I would do with 350K.... for one watch... and it would be hard to decide between a JLC ultra-grand complication or an ...
