Pictures of my new purchase....

First off, thank you for everyone that provided help and encouragement, it was greatly appreciated and factored greatly in me getting my first Montblanc (I posted and asked for some help a few days ago).  I have had my new Sports Chronograph Flyback for one day and wanted to share my thoughts.  I will follow-up with more detail once I put it through the paces a bit, but here are some initial thoughts.

1.  The watch is beautiful and the case at 41.5mm is the perfect size for a sports watch for even small wrists, mine are 6.75in and the watch sits very well on the wrist.

2.  The case is heavy and finely constructed.  It is easily as nice as a previoulsy owned Omega PO and dare I say, even my old Submariner.

3.  The dial is very well laid out, I believe it is the Valjoux tricompax, but I am not 100 sure.  Even under the loupe, the dial and hands are beautifully finished.

4.  The movement a modified Valjoux 7750 is a workhorse, I do not know much about this movement and modifications made by Montblanc so anyone with information I would love to learn some more.  I have not tested the accuracy, so more on that during another post.

5.  I opted for a lether band, it is beautiful, on par with my Camille Fournet bands on my JLCs.  I will be putting a rubber strap on this shortly as it will be a sports watch for me.

6.  I am not so crazy about the Montbalnc etched into the side of the case nor the snowcap on the crown, but it does not bother me all that much.  Actually the Montblanc logo on the crown is growing on me, but the Montblanc on the side I just don´t really like.

I bought this watch strictly as a sports watch, one that I could bang around it, swim in, dive in and all around generally wear hard.  My criteria were basically a nicely contructed watch with good layout, WR for swimming and diving, chronograph function and lume for when I dive.  I believe that the watch nicely covers all of this.  As an added bonus I got big date, a flyback and the right price.  Additionally, this watch is now discontinued and I don´t believe Montblanc is offering another Flyback at the moment, although I could be mistaken.

In all honesty, I struggled a bit with this purchase as I am a real big fan of JLC as my modest collection can attest to (see previous post on "MB Help Needed") and started looking at the Master Compressor Divers. I just could not justify beating around and diving with a many thousand dollar watch and in the end, the Montblanc offered more features, a nicer layout and a much better bang for the buck than anything that I was considering, from Blancpain, JLC, Omega, GP and UN.  And, in today´s environment, saving the extra dollars was also the more prudent investment, with in my opinion nothing lost other than  "horology pedigree" and maybe "in-house" movement, but with a screw down caseback, who cares.  In one day this watch has exceeded my expectations.  I just found out as well that the chronograph works under water and the chronograph hands have lume as well.  It keeps getting better and better.

Just my 2 cents.

Good to know that some things have changed on the model since it was first introduced, especially the ability to activate and utilize the chronograph under water. The quality of the work at Le Locle is excellent. You know that the current CEO of Richemont...

Thank you...

Mike, I look forward to putting this watch to the test a great bit this week. I will be hiking, diving, swimming and wearing it everyday for 10 days straight. I should have a great sense of how it feels and how it functions. I usually am not impressed ver...
