SIHH 2010: Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire

 By: Dje : January 24th, 2010-10:30
Nearly three years have passed since Jaeger-LeCoultre presented the Duometre a Chronographe. This extraordinary piece was the first of an expected series of interpretations of horology devices powered by two parallel barrels. As you may know now the two b...

Awesome review Jérôme ...

I've also been conquered by the Duometre ! I appreciate your technical explanations my friend. Best Patrice

Thanks my friend

Hi, It was a pleasure discovering it with you. Cheers Dje

This will be my next modern JLC.

 By: amanico : January 24th, 2010-11:43
I fell under the charm of this watch... The dial is superb, and the small apertures are superb. I was a bit surprised at first sight, then I had a closer look and loved them. There is something nice to see through these apertures! It is smart from JLC to ...

I fully agree Nicolas !!!

.. soo ..; you won't be needing your 'old' duometre, i'll be more than happy to buy it from you at a 'friends'-price .... F

Nice great shots mon ami!

I agree, if this was in platinum , we'll sport it together! Cheers Stephen

Another pic of the Cal 381.

I just found it among all the pictures I took... A Duometre caliber is indeed something! Best, Nicolas...

Nico how well do you think

the fudroyante fit in this watch?I mean it obviously have a porpouse in the Duometre a Chronographe for time measuring, but don t you think its slightly out of place here?I haven t seen the watch obviously,so..... but could the dial at 6 have been use for ...

Accuracy. So, why not a lighting second hand? Useful, not really, but cool, yes. Does this hand ruin the peaceful dial? IMO, not at all. It gives life, and I'm always fascinated with it. Moreover, some said that this foudroyante may be fragile on the Duom...

I think I agree...

 By: Patrick  : January 25th, 2010-12:02
While perfect for a chronograph, for me the 1/6 second indicator seems out of place here. Visually it works, but I can't reconcile the addition of this function with the lumbering pace of the moon phase. That said perhaps this dichotemy is what makes it i...

White metal now Nicolas ;-)

I think I got the principle now. Very nice. I am not sure I am over the little apertures yet but otherwise I love it! Andreas

I was not totally seduced by this watch.

 By: foversta : January 24th, 2010-12:42
First of all, a big thank to Jérôme for the impressive report and to Nicolas for the additional pics. The technical features, the finishings, well, everything is impressive. But I much prefer a moonphase watch in a simple context like the new DB25 from De...

+1

 By: small-luxury-world : January 24th, 2010-13:21
Just too complicate for such a romantic "complication". Indeed a very cool watch, but not "pure" enough for my taste. Oliver

Very Nice FX

 By: =RWK= : January 25th, 2010-02:53
What does the aperature below the moon tell you? With Thanks, -- Richard.

So FX tell me..

I know you are a fan of the DB25 (classic version). What do you think of the moon phase treatment both25s just got?Would you go for the moon phase rather than the original DB25?If so, is it for the moon phase or the hand wound movement?or both?On the new D...

Very nice.. and yet...

Thanks Jérôme - nice and comprehensive report! I was waiting for this report anxiously because I really like the Duomètre à Chronographe and was very curious to see the new sibling. I find this new Duo QL intriguing and I really want to like it... But I a...

Hi Nikolaj, Indeed you need to see it on your wrist. Thank you for your comments. Cheers Dje

Great report on a beauty of a watch

 By: Starman : January 24th, 2010-14:03
Indeed great watch JLC is offering here. What I find especially fascinating is that they fitted quite a complex total in a 42mm case. I like that a lot; instead of making 45 mm + cases keep it within proportions. I can understand the critisism on the dial...

AAAAAAAAHHHHHH the new DUO!!!

 By: moc : January 24th, 2010-14:20
Well I must say this is the watch that stole my heart(from the pics only)at SIHH 2010.Where should I start:many features makes this a fantastic little number. The hacking seconds, the lunar calendar, the push button at 10 to change date(reminds me of Lange w...

 By: Mostel : January 24th, 2010-14:41
No question an astounding glorious amazing piece of work--and so original!!! But hmmmm... I don't completely love it in these pics.... Does the open space in the dial remind anyone of the Joker's smile? Should we call this watch the Joker? I jest..... Hat...

Thanks Mostel! nt

What is the letter S

 By: aaronm : January 24th, 2010-15:08
in the full moon, at 9 o'clock in the moon dial? A

In the southern hemisphere

 By: Dje : January 25th, 2010-13:31
Hi, The moon disc shows the phase of the moon in the north, while the hand on the left shows the moon phase in the southern hemisphere. So S is for south! Cheers Dje

A cleverer man than I would have figure that out

Nice write up of a great watch. However, I must say that I like the normal Duometre more as it is purer. On the other hand, I understand that for someone who already has a Duometre this would make sense as an addition. Br, Dirk

Thanks! I share your thoughts

 By: Dje : January 25th, 2010-13:33
Hi, If I had to choose between getting a Duometre a Chronographe or a Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire, I wouldn't know what to do. Getting both would be great. Cheers Dje

awsome watch ! [nt]

This is one to think about

 By: respo : January 25th, 2010-07:44
I am not fully in love with this Duo QL at first sight. I am dazzled by the technical features, the hacking feature and its brilliant execution, the perpetually running foudroyante, the equal balance of the moonphase and the time subdials, and the overall...

thanks for a great review Jerome, however..........

 By: G99 : January 25th, 2010-13:00
i have to say that IMVHO you cant improve on perfection and the original Duometre Chronograph is and was perfect. it was superbly balanced to look at and intuitive to use in the few minutes i had to play with it. this new Duometre is very nice, but not as...

I agree with your last sentence

 By: Dje : January 25th, 2010-13:37
Hi Graham, I keep loving even more the original Duometre, but I'd love to help them sell a Quantieme Lunaire! Cheers Dje

Thank you Dje....

 By: MiniCooper : January 25th, 2010-13:59
for this great review..... From what i understand from your commends.... This duometre seems to be an improvement from the previous model in terms of accuracy... is it true?? granted, when the chrono operates it takes away from timekeeping.. but what when...

My pleasure!

 By: Dje : January 25th, 2010-14:14
Hi, Thank you for your comments. Yes we can consider that the Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire is an improvement from the Duometre a Chronographe in terms of precision. In fact it is aimed at being an improvement on classical mechanical watches like a tourbil...

So.....

 By: MiniCooper : January 26th, 2010-10:52
the new dupometre is superior to the chronograph since it is more accurate...... As far as what I was expecting from you.... a patek review..... However you did a great job with this one... Cheers

Well

 By: Dje : January 26th, 2010-23:41
Hi, We'll have other Patek Philippe reviews, but I still did more JLC reviews and JLC is still one of my four favourite brands (no ranking among these four). JLC is also the brand I've more experienced myself. Cheers Dje

Which are....

the four? As far as my original remark it was due to the fact that you are the PP moderator.... Cheers

The four

Hi, I understood your remark but as I've been a JLC forum moderator for 3 years and a half...... My four favourite brands are: JLC, PP, GP, Lange! My four favourite brands have not always been exactly these ones (and obviously there are others I appreciat...

 By: Mitch K : January 25th, 2010-20:27
In the YG model, is the dial going to be the same antique white as in the Duometre chronograph? I immediately fell in love with the YG DC and think that it is an awesome combination. I hope the combination continues as my DC is in desperate need of a comp...

Thank you Mitch

 By: Dje : January 26th, 2010-05:35
Hi Mitch, Congratulations for your Duometre! Honestly my SIHH was definitely too short this year. As for the precise nuance of colour of the dial I can't answer yet. The press file says "eggshell" for the yellow gold version and it was indicated the same ...

Thanks Jerome for the information. I guess we will have to see what the piece looks like

a great report, Jerome. Quite a surprising followup to the Duometre Chronographe but I suppose a dual time is just too obvious. I really like the details and like you, not a fan of cutouts but this one works well, just like the ones on the Sonnerie. A dis...

Hi Damien, Thank you for your comments. In fact the Duometre has a higher finish than the Master line. Regarding technical specs I agree with you. Still there are several ways to show the moon phase but you can't just decide to have X years before you get...

I loved reading your article, Dje!

 By: dxboon : January 29th, 2010-21:44
I have actually read it several times now (*embarrased*). I still don't quite understand the configuration of the energy flow through the movement, but it is a beautiful watch. At this point in time I am still too over-the-moon about the original Duometre...
