COSC, Metas, Qualite Fleurier…Is it necessary?

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 1st, 2024-03:01
Happy to rotate these 8 for this week…I know, only 7 days a week, but I added an extra to switch mid day if I feel like it. As usual, testing the newer Speedmaster and Chopard AE Shal. COSC seems to be not a golden standard as compared to Metas. Some bran...

You’re too kind 🙏🏻 Thank you 🙌🏻

I have no complaints and am happy with what I have, although I always envy other people’s collection too 😊.

What?

What? These are vintage watches ...

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 1st, 2024-17:56
in the making ) I am just waiting for another 20-30 years and they will all be superb vintages. I know you are, Rene. Thank you!

Great picture!

 By: Henke : April 1st, 2024-03:35
And an interesting question. For me it is only important for microbrands or lower cost watches. At lower price points and with microbrands, cosc is a nice guarantee that the brand cares enough to bother with going beyond slapping a miyota into an AliExpre...

Thank you 🙏🏻

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 1st, 2024-03:45
I guess the same goes with ISO 9000, TS16949 and other certifications, it’s a brand image for a company and some assurance to customers that we are worthy and trustworthy. I agree expensive brands should and must make accurate watches, at the very least s...

Excellent points!

That is me…trying to stretch.

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 1st, 2024-03:46
My maximum spectrum is time only to a perpetual calendar chrono is all I need and want 🙌🏻🙏🏻

Thanks for the DM…here are the wrist shots…

and I have to say the rubber is soft and comfortable. Easily moved to outer angle ...

VERY helpful! This looks perfect on your wrist!

 By: ArmisT : April 1st, 2024-04:25
The issue then must have been the other pics on smaller wrists.

They always have the rubber strap in inventory, so maybe can ask them to help swap it for you to try on?

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 1st, 2024-05:15
It will fit on current black dial Speedmater too.

Great suggestion, easy enough.🙏🏽

 By: ArmisT : April 1st, 2024-06:27
I’m not sure if you know, but I’m curious if there are other Omega steel bracelets that would fit this like the current bracelet. I like another bracelet style I saw on the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary watch. I can ask about that too.

COSC is for the movement NOT ENCASED. If my memory serves me well, METAS is for the movement encased in the watch, right?

 By: amanico : April 1st, 2024-07:06
A Chronometer has to be certified by an Independant Authority. COSC is. Is is the case for METAS? I like the idea of a Chronometer Certified. It could also be done by an Observatory. Now, if you don't care about the Chronometer Title, no problem, you are ...

I doubt there is...because Tudor has one that is METAS certified too...

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 1st, 2024-16:51
People said it's like a slap in the face to Omega P

Well... Not sure...

 By: amanico : April 1st, 2024-16:52

What I thought.

 By: amanico : April 1st, 2024-20:22

Did someone say Tudor METAS (❁´◡`❁)

 By: enjoythemusic : April 1st, 2024-21:26
It's great, nice display back showcasing a lovely blackened movement. Wears very well, love the ceramic case too. My only wish would be a matching bracelet. ...

I'd prefer METAS over COSC.

 By: enjoythemusic : April 1st, 2024-07:37
METAS is far more than just COSC accuracy, plus any good quality modern timepiece can be re-'brated to +/-3 seconds, even a lowly Timex.

A kind of Thomas question

 By: Weems@8 : April 1st, 2024-08:28
Is Cosc and Metas necessary? Resent i looked for a watch for enrich my collection. I know the brand delivers a non Cosc and Cosc model of the model. Lucky it is a Cosc the watch i want. So, i look if there is a certification. I did not inspect the lug to ...

Thanks a lot Raymond

I can not hide it anymore under the seats of admirations for the Hentschel H1. Sure, the other Hentschel models are nice too, but i have the same opinion the most have here. I do not know if you own a WPS H1? Can you give me the lug to lug from above to u...

That would be a fantastic relief

 By: Weems@8 : April 1st, 2024-18:15
Sure, the special WPS editions belongs to our friends. I am aiming on a red gold 39,5 mm H1, so i only must chose a dial color, hands treatment and some other bespoke stuf. The decision is not taken fully, but it is always good to have a grail watch in mi...

Haha....that is very high praise for ALS...

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 1st, 2024-16:54
but my love for them has kind of simmered, still like them, but not so much in honey love now

You clearly have an amazing selection for the week ahead my friend. Personally i do like the chronometer certification but that said as long as the manufacturer has some claim/guarantee of accuracy like your example from Patek am good with it…

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : April 1st, 2024-12:17
I know many brand dont have any certification but still have great accuracy but you can have hit and miss. One such example that burn me was VC. While most of their watch are well regulated They officially do not guarantee better then 8 sec per day which ...

You know me well and having the variety and different combinations make my collecting life exciting...

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 1st, 2024-17:59
Every week they look different and feeling fresh to me That's a shame to hear about the VC...what have they done or not done?? I have been on the fence to add my first VC but I'm really tired to start a new "relationship". Maybe I'll just wait for opportu...

I have asked them to regulate my brand new VC Oversea which was running between 8-10 sec/day depending on position and which was just too much for me to find acceptable...

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : April 1st, 2024-18:12
My other previous VC all ran within 2 sec/day. They refused to do it as their official certification allows for ~8 sec/day. I was so furious that I decided to sell it on the used market (I did not make money on this - even lost a bit). What bothered me is...

Can't help it, must correct

 By: blau : April 1st, 2024-12:40
Rolex certainly does get official certification! That's why all three Rolex dials in this picture say "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified"!

Separate question

 By: blau : April 1st, 2024-12:40
Is that the honey gold 1815? It's GORGEOUS

Yep!

 By: amanico : April 1st, 2024-16:53

Yep! ;-)

 By: amanico : April 1st, 2024-20:22

First off, what an incredibly tasteful collection

 By: wangany : April 2nd, 2024-18:52
What a lay out of some wonderful pieces across the spectrum. Wish I had more intelligent things to say about COSC vs. Metas vs. Qualite Fleurier. I do appreciate the near amagentic properties associated with Metas for my use but they all have excellent ex...

You're right....the anti-magnetic is certainly very important in today's life...so many objects could unknowingly affect our watches...

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 2nd, 2024-21:18
Well, some already know Silicon is a good solution. Thank you for your nice words.

1815 Honey Gold...236.050

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 3rd, 2024-14:56

Thank you ☺️

 By: CGJ0 : April 3rd, 2024-18:47

Not a deal breaker...

 By: m2 : April 3rd, 2024-05:58
But I do like to know what the +/- per day is before I buy a watch. My Zeitwerk used to gain ~12 - 20 seconds a day, which to me was OK given the complication, but would have hoped for closer to ~5 - 10 seconds a day... I also do like my tool type watches...

I think Langes are quite accurate even without official certification...like the 1815 HG is only -2s for 3 days....

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 3rd, 2024-15:02
my ZW Date was also within 5s window but I think your ZW can be easily regulated. The main purpose of a watch is to tell time and the expensive ones being accurate, to me is a must and minimum requirement.

Wonderful collection!!

 By: MTR : April 3rd, 2024-06:49
Interestingly, the Speedmaster with the white dial really stands out here. Very intriguing indeed... When it comes to rotation, I'm not as … restless as you. 🙏 I usually get a watch from the bank safe that I really feel like wearing and then I wear it wit...

Thanks my friend....

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 3rd, 2024-16:14
There are some weeks that I am also lazy to switch out and just wore the same watch for days....but I wind the others and keep checking in. We definitely have some first world "problems"...good problem to have. Have a great week!
