The RIOS1931 steel double deployant is excellent

Low profile (I match one with a Reverso Rouge), well finished (even when compared to JLCs own deployant), discreet meaning free of any branding or logo (a bonus in my book), and importantly, has a little steel filler to match the notch left in your watch strap (the side with the buckle) if you are "converting" from a strap with a buckle - this is not a common feature and is actually found on the JLC deployant.

I have 2, and they have been used daily for the last 5-6 years, and not one has failed me so reliability is good IME.

I agree completely that paying $500 for a steel deployant is lining the pockets of JLC, and IMO makes one look like, well, a mug. Especially when an equally functional and equally well-made deployant can be found for $40-60, except it is missing the JLC logo. Sorry if this last bit hurts anyones feelings - if you can afford it and want it more power to you, I guess - it's your money to burn.

To those who have implied that the "security" of your watch is at stake - the springbars are the weak point if the watch is to actually fall off, not the deployant buckle. Does JLC use special "better" springbars?

Recommendations for a deployant?

I purchased a JLC Master Control recently, and the strap comes equipped with a pin buckle. The strap itself isn’t the greatest quality, so I don’t particularly want to shell out for a JLC deployant, but I prefer the convenience. Any recommendations for a ...

dont bother with generic JLC, complete waste of money. Went back to JLC for a replacement strap and buckle was extremely expensive but worth it. A premium watch commands premium accessories. I agree stock JLC straps are questionable but they have a lot of...

Thanks but that’s not what I was asking.

I’m experienced in buying ‘premium’ watches, I just don’t think a $500 steel deployant is good value. Thanks for your advice.

You said everything seems suspiciously cheap...You said everything. You should better be careful with a folding buckle... It is the security of your watch. So, to answer your question,

No, I don't have an idea on where to find a good generic folding buckle, because if it breaks, I prefer to go and solve that with the brand which made it and the watch, than with an obscure brand if the deployant breaks. Expensive watches need some securi...

master ultra thin deployant from the London boutique. Money well spent, especially knowing it came directly from the maison with my exact reference in mind.

I have had a good experience with RHD deployants

They’re better for thicker sportier watches but I suspect it might still be doable for your MC. The double fold with push buttons is the one I use. Hope this helps.

I use Hadley Roma double-folding (butterfly) deployants on several watches. They work just fine and are comfortable. They come in stainless steel, and you can also get them with YG or RG plating. Hadley Roma also makes single-folding deployants, but I hav...
