Polaris 68 Re-Edition: Lack of perfection?

 By: Polaris68 : December 7th, 2008-07:17
The Tribute to Polaris is a beautiful watch (I' am waiting for a 68 model) but I am sorry to say that there are some extremely disturbing details. Decent criticism should be allowed... The 68 model was announced to come with luminous material on hands dia...

i'll look at things the bright side

 By: Cookies : December 7th, 2008-07:46
When you dive, at least there is clear distinction between the hands and the dial. Maybe JLC thought along those lines, it should be seen as an updated model, not as a replica of the old model. Cheers, just my silly opinion.

You're absolutely right, this is a No Go watch

 By: amanico : December 7th, 2008-08:22
So don't go on it! I don't see the problem. The watch is not good for you, so then don't even consider it. Sorry but I don't see your point. If you're among the lucky ones who get the first Polaris 68, you may change the dial, or immediately say to your D...

nic, so it was a mistake

 By: Cookies : December 7th, 2008-08:24
Was the Luminova issue a mistake on JLC's part or simply part of the design?

It was a mistake, to speak crystal clear.

 By: amanico : December 7th, 2008-08:32
But as JLC didn't want to delay the release of the first Polaris, they let the choice to the first owners to change the dial for free... And it will concern only a few Polaris. So, once again , I don't see the problem, and I'm curious to see how many owne...

Not me ...

 By:   : December 7th, 2008-11:15

I think you may be missing one important point,,,

 By: Asimut : December 7th, 2008-08:25
The Polaris tribute is a watch conceived by passionate collectors and greatly appealing to collectors. I am sure that with any other model, the 'faulty' dial would not have left the manufacture doors, BUT I must say most collectors are happy it did. I am ...

a blessing in disguise

 By: Cookies : December 7th, 2008-08:30
I believe AP made the same mistake on the ROO alinghi before, with the spiral shape team logo in the wrong colour, and the watch actually sold for a higher premium. I believe there's an italian in this forum holding the re-edition with the same flaw you m...

Collector or dealer?

 By: Polaris68 : December 7th, 2008-09:57
Sorry guys, but I didn't order this watch to sell it again with profit! I am not a dealer I am a collector - price speculations are of no relevance for me! And yes, I own a collection of vintage dive watches from the 60th! @ Asimut: I am collecting watche...

The colour of the hands must be different from dial

 By: mstanga : December 7th, 2008-10:37
In the Polaris of 1968 the hands were different in colour with the indexes, as You can see in the attached photo the colour of hands are identical in 68 and in tribute to polaris. JLC is simply trying to redone the indexes as it was in 68 and they made a ...

Different colours?

 By: Polaris68 : December 7th, 2008-13:42
@ Marco Interesting point, but I am not shure about this! The watch on the picture could be restored and the luminescent material of the hands could be renewed ... Let's have a look to some more pictures: Source: click here , click here On the first pictu...

different colors, I'm quite sure

 By: mstanga : December 7th, 2008-13:48
Sorry for my bad English I've seen many and many Polaris from '68, knew many owner of this incredible watch, and I'm quite sure that the color of the hands is different. A friend of mine talked wit JLC and they confirmed that. It's all, I hope this help. ...

Yes, different colors

 By: Criollo : December 8th, 2008-03:46

Think of it this way ...

 By:   : December 7th, 2008-11:32
JLC did make a mistake. They had 2 options in solving the problem: They could hold up delivery of all Polaris until a new batch of "good" dials is available. A consequence of this would be that you would know nothing about the mistake and a few more month...

Mistake or not...

By: India Whiskey Charlie : December 7th, 2008-14:12

Perfection does not exist anywhere...

By: India Whiskey Charlie : December 7th, 2008-14:13

I think...

 By: DeVille : December 7th, 2008-14:20
I think the dial and hands looks best with the same color - there would be no problem if the hands also was as dark as the "off color". So... Maby you can ask JLC to change the color of the hands instead of getting a new dial.....?!?

I doubt that's possible...

By: India Whiskey Charlie : December 7th, 2008-14:31

I second that

 By: BDLJ : December 7th, 2008-17:59

You hit the nail!

 By: Polaris68 : December 7th, 2008-19:21
Yes, that's true and even with the new dial the colours will not match as promoted! To give the watch this very special appearance with light yellow Luminova all over (that I would like best) the dial, bezel *and* the hands have to be changed !! No questi...

So, now we got your point. But as you seem to be def, let me tell you one last time.

 By: amanico : December 7th, 2008-21:59
If you're not happy with, don't go on this not exceptional watch , your money would certainly go on much better watches, and we'll stay between us, passionate and incult watch lovers. You know, we are all ignorant about watches, here, and we all were wait...

Embarrassing arrogance

 By: Polaris68 : December 8th, 2008-04:14
Again a very weak posting from your side! Nicolas, I know very well that I don't have to take the watch if I'm not happy with it. By the way: Isn't it an embarrassing arrogance to tell me this 10 times a day? I'm not bashing the Polaris! - Decent criticis...

Let me spell it to you

 By: amanico : December 8th, 2008-06:49

With all due respect, Polaris 68, criticism is perfectly acceptable . . .

I think I can understand your point of view. It was not my intension to be impolite! But besides this I am of the opinion that a moderator should be neutral and independent and should stick to facts! Ok, maybe JLC made a mistake. - We all make mistakes an...

A warm 'thank you', Polaris 68 . . .

. . . I understand that this is your first visitation to The Purists / PuristSPro, and perhaps you're not aware of the underlying premise of our forum: the model for behavior is the same as one would expect at a dinner party, and the moderator acts not on...

I must admit I expect mine to be the same as the Jaeger

Tribute to Polaris screen background : ie hands and dial with fake patinated. Just my wish and hope not to be disappointed ! cheers,

Can you explain what do you mean 'with fake patinated'?

 By: PoyFR : December 8th, 2008-00:34
Why not simply calling it for what it is... TINTED LUMINOVA To me using 'Fake' to describe anything issued by an original brand seems inappropriate, don't you think?

OK. yellow patinated that...

I would love it as well! The name of this forum is PuristsPro. A puristic opinon should be respected! Regards

We heard your opinion, but as the thread continues

 By: Guille : December 8th, 2008-07:16
a discussion has to form. You won't take anyone else's opinion but yours. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Not at all.

I see your point

 By: 1440 : December 8th, 2008-08:32

So you're a JLC Vintage Collector, Polaris 68 ?

 By: p@trice : December 8th, 2008-12:27

Where did you read this ?

 By: Clavi : December 9th, 2008-02:25
I have read all the thread, and I did not read that Polaris 68 ever wrote he is a JLC Vintage collector, so this question seems curious. BTW, I don't see how you need to be a JLC vintage collector to be untitled to have an opinion on a watch you have orde...

jlc.watchprosite.com But you're absolutely right, it is not necessary to be a JLC Collector to have an opinion. There is actually a difference between opinion and bashing. If the debate was about non matchin or matching, why not. If the statement was: " W...

Pics and wrist

 By: Dje : December 9th, 2008-03:23
Hi Polaris68, I understand your frustration but hope you'll forget it soon when you'll see your watch! I was surprised by the first pics of the real watch myself, but was very happy when I put it on my wrist. Actually I'm used to seeing non-matching vinta...

I was also surprised ...

 By: Tony SC : December 9th, 2008-05:38
... by this pic Somehow it looks strange (at least to me), as I am so used to non-matching hands (which I prefer). I guess it just goes to show that tritiun ages differently as we can see examples of both cases (although most frequently hands don't match)...

my unbiased view as someone not buying the polaris is this

 By: G99 : December 9th, 2008-12:24
if you dont like it dont buy it.

well...

 By: DeVille : December 9th, 2008-12:43
Well… I do like it And I have already paid for it – in august – this was the only way I could get this piece. I haven’t received my 1968 yet and JLC could change what ever they feel like – I still have paid for it. But as long as my AD don´t go bankrupt -...
