A Trip in Asia. Part 2: Hong Kong.

Jul 02, 2014,03:05 AM

Hong Kong... This is a city I always wanted to visit, since I am child.

From my parisian eyes, I always thought that Hong Kong had a human size.

I couldn't imagine it was that big!

My first Hong Kong Teacher was my taxi driver, from the airport to the town, who showed me how big was this town.

The other detail I soon had to face is the impressive number of people in the Streets. Even for a parisian I am, this is something which catches you, as well as the concentration of buidlings, and their size!

Another thing, which I should have mentionned first, is the cilmate. Hot, that is ok, I am used to that. but if you add the strong humidity, that is another league.

I didn't sweat like that since I was in Ivorian Coast!

As an european, I think the best hotel to stay is the Mandarin Oriental, the old one, I mean.

This hotel immerges you in a delicious asian ambiance, with a touch of elegance and luxury which is absolutely sublime.

The view from my hotel room was not bad, indeed.

On the background, the pier:

The Old Court of Justice...

Watches are never too far...

On the second day, we had a great lunch in a restaurant located in the Peak, where some air, which I would not qualify as fresh, but at least blowing a bit, made us enjoy the lunch, outside, on the terrasse.

The view from the Terrasse:

Go a bit higher, and the view is even better:

Our friend WTA seems to appreciate the moment a lot!

In any trip you have to face tough times, and the JLC Team drove me to the old part of Hong Kong. What I missed in Singapore, I lived it in Hong Kong.

I went to some old parts of the town, and had a great moment in Hollywood Road, the place where you can find a lot of dealers selling vintage stuff.

Just before entering the area...

Before exploring this part of the town, we paid a small visit in one of the older temples, here.

A place which fascinated me a lot, I have to say, as you feel the soul, the spirit and the asian ambiance, quite immediately.

The entry:

Inside, a mystic ambiance...

The kingdom of darkness, strange light, incense... Here, you truly are in Asia!

Why did I write " tough "? Because, Inside, it was hot like Hell! So hot that the street looked very fresh in comparison.

After those 15 minutes of spiritual immersion, it was time to get a drink, as I must have lost 3 liters of water in such a short time.

I tempted the local drink, which is a surprising, but excellent, blend of tea and coffee, sunk into ice.

Time to feel Asia...

Even the tree looks thirsty. Never saw the roots running all along the wall trying to find some water.

Living the area...

My guides seem the suffer from the Heath... The jacket is over... wink

I never saw so many Pandas!

And the Tribute To Geophysic?

The stainless steel version was our companion, here.

In the peak, on your servitor's wrist:

Unless you prefer Chloe's wrist, and how could I blame you?

Here, pausing in front of the temple, ala Diane Kruger's way...

2 static shots I couldn't resist taking, on some appropriate backgrounds:

With some goodies, smartly designed by Shirley, for the event.

You got it, among the three Tributes to Geophysic, this is the steel version I adopted as my companion for this stay in Asia.

Some will prefer the warmth of the rose gold, or the density of the platinum, associated to its better known dial, personally I was pleased with the steel, and its cross hair dial.

To be even more pleased, I would well see this Watch with a cordura or nylon strap, not necessarily a Nato. In sand or khaki olive, it would greatly compliment and dress down the Watch.

I appreciated, too, the nice pin buckle, which I find more comfortabel than a folding buckle.

As for Hong Kong, I was caught by the soul, the atmosphere of the place(s), old and new. Taking the ferry to go to the Heritage 1881 Boutique was, also a disorienting experience.

I know I will return there. For the place, and also the friends I met there. Same for Singapore.

I was really moved to meet all of you in the real life, and by your incredibly warm welcome.

I would also like to thank the JLC Team, Guillain, Alexis, Benjamin, Alethea and the " Queen of Emails " Shirley who made this trip and first asian experience possible, and the whole JLC Teams ( Singapore and Hong Kong ) for the logistic, and the quality time offered to me.

You moved me, all of you!

Thanks and all the best.

Nicolas

This is a city to feel, if you want to understand it.

Great to meet you in person... The 1,600 pandas, as you probably know, are the creation of French sculptor Paulo Grangeon, also creator of the Rubber Duck. As for the weather, yes, hot and humid I must agree, but come again in November/December and you wi...

Yes, thanks for the precision about the 1600 pandas, Sam.

I will certainly come balc here, but when the weather is a bit different, I think. That was somewhat an obstacle to fully enjoy long walks through the City. All the best, my friend. Nicolas

I recognize many of those places!

HK is a fun city isn't it? Lots to see and do! That Tribuite To Geophysic is a great travel companion! -MW

Fun, strange, mystic... I have to say that my culture is far from being asian.

I have been to Hong Kong twice, both times "before watches" which is a shame (for my collection) and a blessing (for my budget). My impressions were much like yours only I was there during very nice weather so never felt the heat and humidity. Thank you f...

One friend there told me that for one floor of a tower, it takes them two weeks.

I used to live right above the Man Mo Temple that you visited. That area does have some character to it, doesn't it? Great pics, btw.

I'm glad you..

finally made it over here! Not the ideal season to visit but your next trip should bring much cooler weather. It's a pity your stay was so short as apart from the main tourist attractions there are many other interesting places to visit - the next time.:)...

Aaah, Fernando, my friend...

Nicolas, no food photos?

 By: lhk1 : July 2nd, 2014-20:46
Did you try the famous roast goose and pigeon? Do you know why you felt so hot inside the temple? Evil spirit entered the holy place. You are lucky you were not burn into ashes. Regards Ling

Hi, Ling, my friend. I never think about taking food pics.

 By: amanico : July 3rd, 2014-00:30
You see, I have a lot to learn! No, I had chinese food in Singapore, with a delicious " canard laquĆ© ", which was abolsutely deicious. I was much less fan of the fried Oyster, to tell the truth. As for the temple, after 15 minutes, I knew I had to go out....

When next opportunity arises, you are welcome to Malaysia
