Which Deep Sea?

Aug 01, 2011,22:21 PM

Hi All,

I hope I am not covering ground that you have already sifted through in your heads, but can I ask: “which TT Deep Sea Alarm, the US or European versions do you prefer and WHY.”?

It appears that some of you can’t decide so have purchased both.

I have only seen the watch in pictures but I have an absolute preference for one over the other at the moment, so I want to hear your ‘arguments’ for both watches.

Kind regards

Andrew

Thanks to Blomman and Tyler for the images to remind us.

Too different, my friend.

I'd say that the TT DSA US has more a macho look, is funnier, while the European is more elegant. Hence the fact that quite a lot of clients decided to go on BOTH. Two different registers, but if I had a gun on my head, I would say that I'd go on the Euro...

+1 i actually like the US version but when i saw...

the dial turn, i found the resulting skewed writing to be a bit disconcerting. quite unfortunate for me because i find the markings charming even though i may prefer the euro version in the long term (assuming that the markings didn't turn with the dial.....

.. It ended up with BOTH, why ? Well, initially the unusual, a bit Machismo look with the LC signature ( apart from all other things and notions multiply written about here), drove me to order the US ( which I don't regret, BTW) -- BUT: Thanks to encounte...

Well, you can get used to it.

I owned for several years the Vintage DSA US, and this didn't disturb me, I just avoided to turn the alarm disc. Best, Nicolas.

Both!

But if push came to shove, I think I'd have to vote for the European for its more timeless and clean look... C

I can't remember

which one is american and which one is euro, but I like the model on the right (Tyler's picture). The model on the left has a rather standard dive watch style. It is attractive, but it is similar to many other watches out there. The model on the right is ...

Aw... shucks. You sure you aren't saying that just to make me feel good:-)

Seriously though. I agree with you Stewart. Of all the nice thing. The American has it flaws but that what's make its so interesting. Is kinda like Steven Tyler from Aerosmith his voice is horrible but the whole songs comes together. Take him out and the ...

Which one..?

Hi Andrew, For me there has always only been one Deep Sea Alarm! The JLC version. First time I saw it I knew this is the ONE! To me the Jaw-teeth-like index is for me the keep point, never been a big fan of a lot of writing on the dial. So when I started ...

but maybe because this one arrived first and I formed an early attachment. The first one tends to create a powerful influence and sentimental value. Strong points for me of the Eu version is the no-nonsense dial with all around lume. Some may not associat...

Definitely, I love the way you think, Fernando.

Yes, there is something about the Cali on this European TT DSA. And yes, its dial makes more sense than the American, but that's the limit of the logic: Do we really need a reason to love watches? Best, Nicolas.

There sure is NO reason(ing) for love !.. :)

Every of us had experienced that: - you only partially can explain it, but it's there - and often pretty strong. Sometimes, it only picks up at second sight (or re-reflection ?); happened to me with the DSA- EU, and I am sooo happy ( and grateful for a kn...

DSA "Amerique" pour moi...

 By: craniotes : August 2nd, 2011-07:37
From the moment they were first shown back in January there was no question in my mind which one I preferred. Of course, my preference was based on the crazy dial and the "LeCoultre" name being so prominently featured; two things that turn off a lot of fo...

now that's one mighty pair:) [nt]

My preference

 By: AndrewD : August 2nd, 2011-18:59
My preference is for the European version and it is, as Nico points out, because the wording on the US version “LeCoultre Deep See Alarm Automatic” turns with the alarm disk. It looks great when set for 1200, as shown in 95% of the pictures (and all the a...

What, you mean like this?

 By: craniotes : August 4th, 2011-07:18
Or this? ;-) Personally, the rotating dial of the DSA US was a big draw for me. While I do appreciate the etched crystal on my NSA Incursion, the wacky nature of the US market dial made it a no-brainer for me. Indeed, my default setting for the alarm is 6...

Thanks for this 'perspective'

 By: AndrewD : August 4th, 2011-15:42
Thanks for this 'perspective', Adam. I tend to be drawn to symmetrical objects, and I realise that some prefer asymmetry - an old and interesting thread topic that we should revisit, btw - so I appreciate your comments and pictures. I can see that it may ...

... when first reading the ads of these TT DSA... i was thinking of European version more since in my mind, like those vintage JLC watches, we usually like to hunt for European version rather US version, partly for me because there were "Jaeger Le-coultre...

It will be interesting to revisit this question ...
