At the price point I was considering, there has only been Omega on my mind. On top of that, this being my first watch, I was looking for a daily beater which can stand up to wear and tear. I mean if its fit to go in space, surely it can handle my daily ac... 

For a daily beater you shot at a pretty nice level. Once Vlad gets a hold of your mind in the JLC forum your wallet will be in big trouble. Please to have you on board. Bill

And that's a great first serious watch. It is already an icon and definitely a huge step. I am sure you will enjoy the watch immensely, and with regard to your comment about opening the floodgates - you have no idea how slippery this slope is :-) You will... 

...I think the SM 300 is great value, looks good and is the most comfortable big watch I've worn. They are also very easy to read with that uncluttered dial. The vintage SMs are even better!!!! Cheers

The first automatic watch I bought was the blue Seamaster 300m Professional (prior to the co-axial movements) back in 1999. Has served me very well, and for 8 years solid was my daily watch, including diving activities. And in all the time I have had it, ...

I have a weakness for a few modern Omegas... currently the Dark Side Speedy model... Omegas--modern ones--have that 'one watch forever' appeal. This one watch could be the only one you ever need. Fantastic first nice watch. I also appreciate seeing a few ... 

and i mean crowd as there are a lot of us. very good choice as a first watch. loads of history in the seamaster range, excellent movement, good solid case and bracelet. you cant go far wrong. i owned one of the first pre co axial smp's and the chrono, but...
