The LeCoultre GMT in the 4ATM article is a FAKE!

Jun 13, 2010,13:49 PM

Sorry but I have to speak up.  This craziness has to stop! It needs to be flagged as such in a forum like this -- otheriwse more people are going to get ripped off. Other than GregB's post, I'm surprised no one has spoken up.

All these LeCoultre chronos with "extra" complications like GMT, triple date, etc, particularly with ones that has a Breguet "Type 20" styles dial are fake. These all came out of Germany at the same time about 10 years ago and are probably still being made as long as people are paying crazy prices for them!

It's a mine field out there,

Thanks,

Zaf

Thanks for spreading the good word! And welcome here, too! The funny thing is that I spent a lot of time this WE to prepare a review on the Chrono Shark, and I demonstrated how it was weird to see such a " Diving " GMT with a 24 hours bezel and hands. The...

haven't seen this U.S. Catalog before....

That's a catalog I haven't seen before. It looks like the scan is cut off on the right hand side, leaving out some models. Do you have the rest of the catalog scanned or posted anywhere? Regards, Greg

No, the Manufacture sent me the scan, as I'm working on the " Shark ".

So, I just have this part of the catalog. I will ask them to send me the other part, but they will kill me, as I recently asked them a ton of things... Best, Nicolas

I have the complete 1970 catalog.

I have the 1970 USA catalog in full, none iof these fantasy "extra complication" chronographs are in there either, nor should they be. Curiously, it states that the "Shark" only comes with 2 bezels: 60 minute and world time, original retail price $160.00.

Curious, indeed.

They may have come first with 3 bezels, then with only two bezels... It wouldn't be surprising, if you consider some aberrations, like the non turning bezel of the Deep Sea Alarm! What do you think? As for the dial with the Type XX Minute counter, I total...

Here is mine. It has 2 bezels. But the dial is JLC not LeCoultre. It is never serviced and runs perfectly......

Hi, Zamia.

Yes, the Diving Chrono came withe LeCoultre and Jaeger-LeCoultre dial, which is exactly the same in both cases. You're lucky tyo own the 2 bezels. I'm hunting the decimal one... Thanks for sharing this picture! Best, Nicolas

Thank you for the heads up, Zaf!

Like you say, “it’s a mine field out there”… Especially for a newbie like myself, I have your book and find it very interesting and helpful. Thank you for the warning, and hoping for a “Guide for the collector II” Best Blomman

Thanks, I'm working on the second edition, but slowly as I am also working on a book on military watches. When it does come out, I'd expect another 100 pages or so, maybe more!

Keep us updated, please, Zaf! [nt]
