The Rose Gold Reverso Saga in pictures.

Sep 08, 2014,06:45 AM

This is a photo session I always had in mind. Now that my collection of pictures is complete, I can put it on line!

1991: 60ième: Cal 824.

1993: Tourbillon: Cal 828.

1994: Minute Repeater: Cal 943.

The Reverso Minute Repeater is the only one which comes with a solid verso back, hiding the movement.

1996: Chronographe Retrograde: Cal 829.

1998: Géographique: Cal 858.

2000: Quantième Perpetuel: Cal 855.

Perpetual Calendar Chronographe Retrograde, Minute Repeater, Tourbillon... The old and classic Complications have been revisited in an exciting way. The 60ième is a bit apart, as it doesn't display a noble complication, but its 14 CT rose gold movement and its fin guillcohé dial make it very desirable.

The Géographique is certainly the most friendly of them.

Each of them was limited to 500 pieces. And, from time to time, they spot on the collectors markets, or auctions.

They also were the first Reversos to house a complication, each of them being conceived by a dedicated watchmaker:

Daniel Wild for the 60ième.

Sylvain Golay for the Reverso Tourbillon.

Eric Coudray for the Minute Repeater.

Manuel Guerin for the Chronographe Retrograde.

Philippe Vandel for the Reverso Géographique.

And Rachel Torresani for the Quantième Perpetuel.

A certain way to demonstrate the richness of a Manufacture, for sure.

Which one would be your favourite?

I wouldn't easily choose one from all these beauties, but if I had to do so, I would probably go for the Géographique.

Not everybody' s choice, but I am totally mad about this complication.

And you?

Best,

Nicolas This message has been edited by amanico on 2014-09-08 06:59:37

Marvellous to see them all together, thank you for the summary......and after these...70eme....that was beautiful too..especially the movement. Mo

Aaah, the 70eme, it was the beginning of a short story.

The story of the XGT case, which didn't last that much, as well as the GT platinum cases, too... Ok, I noted, Minute Repeater or Chrono for you... Did you notice the Gran Sport Chrono, in stainless steel? An excellent alternative, very cool, too, and high...

This collection was one of the high points in JLC's modern history. It is no secret that I would favor the Chronographe Retrograde, and I really hope to add one to my collection some day. But the Minute Repeater, the Tourbillon, the PC, the Geographique -...

Feeding dreams is my speciality.

 By: amanico : September 8th, 2014-08:23
It sometimes turns to nightmaresque obsessions, I agree, but some delightful ones. The diea behind this article was to demonstrate that the interest of the whole collection, of the ensemble, lies on each of these marvels. And the contrary is also valable....

Didn't know that "Feeding dreams"...

I think we should not forget the 60eme, as it was the first of the line.

And who knows, without it, maybe no other rose gold jewels, or no 70eme??? Best, my friend. Nicolas

Now, the question is " Will you double it with a ss Gran Sport Chrono "?

I mean one which would belong to YOU? ;) Best, my Lucky friend. Nicolas

Just fabulous!

Hi Fantastic watches - really wonderful watches! They include some of my favourite watches - not just JLC's. It shows that a large case isn't always necessary for an interesting complication. Cheers JML

You are right. They cover almost all the horological complications.

Get all of them, and you are done. ;) Best, Nicolas

The chronograph...

 By: Goldenlutin : September 8th, 2014-13:42
but I am biased as I do own one. It is close to be the perfect Art Deco chronograph, at least for me. All these Reversos have been created at a time which I think will be considered one day as the golden age of JLC (with respect to wristwatches)

Golden age of JLC...

 By: amanico : September 8th, 2014-23:42
Interesting point you raise. When you see this sublime collection of RG Reversos, yes, you can think so. But the round case family was not at the same level. Ok, you had the Memovox, the Geographic, the Perpetual Calendar, the RDM and the Master Control, ...

Coin toss - geographique or tourbillon

 By: watchthatman : September 8th, 2014-14:20
I love the sobriety of the tourbillon face, combine with the tourbillon on the verso. Geographique font on verso is great! Reminds me of the letters on the St. Michel metro station in Paris.

Time to come back, then. ;)

It is so understated on the dial side but also so magnificent on the back side... ...

Hard to choose...perhaps the tourbillon

 By: vitalsigns : September 8th, 2014-19:53
I don't generally see the need for a tourbillon, but of these, I think I like the looks of the tourbillon the best--so pure and simple, and the view of the movement on the reverse side is a perfect application of the reverso mechanism. Hard to choose, tho...

Had both the RM and the Tourbillon more than 10 years ago...

 By: DTL : September 8th, 2014-22:20
Moved on because they got almost zero wrist time, but I do miss the Tourbillon from time to time.

This is a superb review!

 By: jlux : September 8th, 2014-23:44
I always found that the Reverso design is particularly suited to go with a RG case. It emphasizes somehow the timeless elegance of the watches. Best, Gerard

Is the Minute Repeater! :) Stunning line up. Thank you for sharing, my friend Best Blomman

That was the one which really puzzled me, I have to say.

Much more than any other... But since I was Lucky to get the MMR... Thanks for your feedback, my friend. Nicolas

Hard to choose....

 By: watchme : September 9th, 2014-08:18
The 60th has the pointer date, the Chrono was EXTREMELY difficult to build and JLC lost money on every one (including the steel) they ever produced, the Geo is the most user-friendly and practical. But for me, I think the QP is my favorite. It has the thi...

.... Fantastic. So clean. So beautiful. Would love to see the movement through the caseback, but that would impact the sound, no? - Scott

Monsieur a bon gout. ;)

 By: amanico : September 12th, 2014-07:38
I guess you are right about the see through case back impacting the sound. A MR in such a small and thin case is a tough challenge, already... Best, Nicolas

Another excellent post....

Excellent pictures!!! For me, would have to decide between the minute repeater and tourbillon. But if I had to pick ONE, would go for the TOURBILLON!! Very classic and subtle 'front' dial, with the incredible tourbillon function on the "Reversed" side! Wo...

Any of those is a wonderful choice, in my opinion.

Wonderful to document these wonderful watches - thanks Nico

I've always loved their mix of classic reverso looks - and serious watchmaking. I think this is one of the best watch series from any brand I've already placed my vote - the Geographique - but I still dream of picking up the repeater or chronograph at a g...

Greg, you are lucky to own such a nice watch!

We have a favourite in common, here. ;) The problem, if you start adding a second Reverso, is that, slowly, you will want a third, then a fourth, then... the complete series. Why not, after all? Enjoy yours, my friend, and please, share some pictures with...

Max Busser's dates at JLC

 By: Greg D : November 28th, 2014-15:30
Re-reading an old thread - but found some extra info. From what I can find Max graduated in 1991, and joined Harry Winston in 1998 having worked for JLC for 7 years. So I guess that means 1991-1998. His bio says "[Max's] responsibilities at Jaeger-LeCoult...

Had the extraordinary chance of entering JLC on August 1st 1991. Henry-John Belmont had just created the Product Manager position, and I was extremely lucky to land that as my first job after university. I did not therefore work on the first piece, the 60...

Hey, Max! Always a pelasure to read you here. Thanks for the informations.

 By: amanico : November 30th, 2014-08:19
I will ask to the HG who worked on the 60eme movement. All the best, my friend. Nicolas

Correction: Daniel Wild was the design engineer, not the watchmaker who worked on the movement, indeed.

 By: amanico : January 10th, 2016-03:40
I still have to ask to the Manufacture who worked on the Soixantieme movement. Best, Nicolas

+1 for the tourbillon

 By: Horologically_minded : January 10th, 2016-06:43
Time only small seconds on the front - check. PR indicator on the movement side - check. Flashy tourbillon hidden away for my eyes only - check. And best of all... GT case! A winner for me!=) J

Definitely go go go for the tourbillon!

Understated dial with small second, amazing back! Stunning for me! Is it only available in rose gold? Best, É
